Before Your Scallop Adventure

Make sure you're prepared for a comfortable and fun day on the water. Here’s what we recommend bringing:

  • Swimsuit (wear it under your clothes for a quick start)

  • Lightweight, breathable boat clothes
    – Think flowy fabrics that dry quickly and can get wet

  • Towels for everyone in your group

  • Sun protection:
    – Long-sleeve performance shirts (PFG-style), lightweight pants, and wide-brimmed hats are highly recommended
    – Reef-safe sunscreen if needed (but note: sunscreen tends to wash or sweat off during long days in the water)
    – The Florida sun in July is intense—clothing protection is far more effective than lotion alone

  • Light snacks and drinks (we’ll have cold water on board; feel free to bring your favorites)

  • Snorkel and mask (optional – we’ll provide high-quality gear if you don’t have your own)

  • Life jackets for kids under 10 (required)
    – We have Coast Guard-approved life jackets available, or bring your own if preferred

  • Phone charger
    – We’ll have an iPhone charger on board; bring your own cable if you use a different phone

  • Dry bag or waterproof pouch (optional, for keeping valuables safe)

  • Small cooler (optional, if you’d like to bring extra drinks or take scallops home)

And of course, bring your sense of adventure and get ready to make unforgettable memories on the water!

What to Expect

Get ready for a fun, safe, and unforgettable day on the water. Here’s everything you need to know before your adventure:

Who You'll Be With

  • Captain Scotty is your guide, boat captain, and all-around waterman.
    – Former Volusia County lifeguard
    – Grew up boating and fishing with his dad
    – Spent high school "majoring in surfing" and living on the water
    – Professional angler and certified kayak instructor
    – Currently pursuing advanced SCUBA certifications
    – Holds a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License with plans to continue his marine education

  • Scotty will be joined by a trained in-water guide to help with snorkeling, scalloping, baiting, and more.

What You'll Be On

  • A comfortable 23' Sundance boat, hand-picked by Captain Scotty
    – Designed for both lounging and fishing

  • Fully equipped for a safe and enjoyable day

  • Scotty is licensed to carry up to 6 guests per trip

  • All necessary gear will be provided, including snorkel sets and scallop mesh bags

Where to Meet

  • Meet at:
The Waterfront Social Restaurant / Manatee Swim Center
1610 SE Paradise Circle, Crystal River, FL

  • Park anywhere nearby

  • Use the restrooms and check out the dive shop before heading to the boat

  • Meet Scotty at the boat ramp once you're ready

  • Bonus: The restaurant offers a cook-your-catch option—ask the restaurant manager for details!

When to Arrive

  • Trips are offered as half-day or full-day adventures

  • Morning charters begin at 7:00 AM
    – Please arrive on time or early so we can beat the crowds out to the Gulf

  • Afternoon half-day trips begin at 1:00 PM

What You'll Do

  • Cruise out to the Gulf and "spot hop" between scalloping areas

  • Snorkel in clear, shallow waters (typically 4–6 feet deep)

  • Collect scallops right off the sea floor using mesh bags we provide

  • If you prefer not to get in the water, you’re welcome to relax on the boat
    – That said, we strongly recommend cooling off with a dip, especially during the hotter months (July and August)
