$50 and a Dream

From bartender to business owner -- this is how I did it.

"The only thing you need to level up in life is sobriety, a plan and fierce determination."

My Story

Chapter 1 -- Reset I chose Sobriety and a fresh start. I didn't have savings -- just grit and a notebook. Stay tuned for the rest of this story, as this section is a work in progress.

Chapter 2 -- $50 and a Plan The Vision This vision is all about shaping your brand identity before you spend a dime. This is where you create the foundation of your business -- the name, the logo the colors, and most importantly, the customer you’re building for. Start by choosing a business name that feels memorable and aligns with your values, then pick a simple logo and color palette to keep your branding consistent. Next, define your customer: who are they, how old are they, where do they live, and what do they care about? Go deeper by researching the brands they already rep — follow those companies on social media, see which influencers they connect with, and study the hashtags and trends they engage in. From day one, keep your business presence separate from your personal life: create business pages on all major social platforms and get a cheap phone with a dedicated business number. Use this device strictly for calls, texts, and managing your business accounts — and later, you can easily hand it off to a helper without giving away your personal info. Finally, every strong brand needs a purpose beyond profit. Build a nonprofit-style element into your vision: how will your business make a difference? For me, it started with beach cleanups and youth group events, and has grown into advocating for reef-safe sunscreen, planting trees in parking lots, and even speaking up at commission meetings when developers threaten our forests. Customers connect more deeply with businesses that stand for something — so decide early on what your movement will be. Stay tuned for the rest of this story, as this section is a work in progress.
